Section A · About 7 miles
Half or full day
The busiest and most accessible reach: clear water, red canyon walls, Class I-II rapids, and a river-side trail for the entire section.
No camping along Section A. Recreation-use fees apply at developed sites.
Section B · About 9 miles
Full day or overnight
A quieter and more remote reach with Red Creek Rapid, limited road access, and 17 designated float-in camps.
Overnight camping is restricted to designated sites; reserve float-in camps in advance.
Section C · About 14 miles
One long day or two days
The longest section, moving through the open high-desert valley of Browns Park with long stretches of flat water.
Private floating does not require a river permit. Verify access, camping, and road conditions before launch.
Below Section C · Connecting reach
The Green continues through lower Browns Park to the Gates of Lodore launch. This is geographic context, not an official “Section D.” Gates of Lodore begins a separate 44-mile NPS-permitted trip to Split Mountain.

Section A pairs clear water with the red walls below Flaming Gorge Dam. Section B becomes quieter, adds Red Creek Rapid, and uses reserved float-in camps.
Section C opens into Browns Park with flatter water, longer shuttle roads, and fewer nearby services. The river continues downstream toward the separate Gates of Lodore permit launch.
